Ameesha Patel Recalls Being Nervous During Her First Scene with Amrish Puri in Gadar

Mumbai: Bollywood actress Ameesha Patel has shared fond memories of working with legendary actor Amrish Puri in the blockbuster film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, revealing that she was extremely nervous during their first scene together.

In a recent interview with Indian media, Ameesha Patel recalled that her first sequence with Amrish Puri involved an intense and emotional face-to-face confrontation, which made her feel anxious and intimidated.

“I was literally trembling before shooting that scene,” she said, adding that her nervousness stemmed from sharing the screen with one of Indian cinema’s most respected and accomplished actors.

However, the actress explained that Amrish Puri quickly put her at ease through his warm and encouraging nature.

According to Ameesha, the veteran actor made it easy for her to perform and never allowed her to feel the gap between his immense experience and her status as a newcomer. She noted that at the time, her debut film Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai had not yet been released and was still awaiting completion.

“He never made me feel that he was a legendary actor while I was just starting my career,” she said.

Ameesha also reflected on the contrast between Amrish Puri’s on-screen image and his real-life personality. While he became famous for portraying powerful villains such as Mogambo and Ashraf Ali in Gadar, she said he was remarkably cheerful and possessed a wonderful sense of humor off-screen.

“I still miss Amrish Ji very much,” she said. “The fear was not because of him personally, but because of his stature and experience. In reality, he was incredibly loving, intelligent, and funny.”

The actress praised the late star for creating a supportive environment for younger performers and said his kindness helped her gain confidence during the early stages of her career.

Amrish Puri remains one of the most iconic figures in Indian cinema, remembered for his commanding screen presence as well as the respect and admiration he earned from colleagues across the film industry.
