Akshay Kumar Says Watching His Early Films Made Him Want to ‘Slap Himself’

Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has revealed that there was a point in his career when he became frustrated with repeatedly playing action roles, prompting him to reinvent himself and explore a wider range of characters.
In a recent interview, Akshay Kumar reflected on his remarkable journey in the film industry, saying that sustaining a successful career for 35 years is an extraordinary achievement.
“Thirty-five years is a very long time. Out of millions of people, only a few are fortunate enough to enjoy such a lengthy career. My prayer is that I continue working until the last moments of my life,” he said.
The actor also shared that when he first entered the film industry, his primary goal was to earn money and establish himself professionally.
Discussing the early years of his career, Akshay noted that he spent nearly a decade appearing mostly in action films. However, when he later revisited those movies, he realized he had become confined to a single image on screen.
“After a decade, when I watched my films, I felt like slapping myself,” he said. “I had only done action roles, and nobody believed I could do anything else. That’s when I realized I needed to change and take on different kinds of characters.”
According to the actor, this realization motivated him to diversify his career by experimenting with comedy, romance, drama, and horror-comedy films.
Akshay credited this willingness to evolve as one of the key reasons behind his longevity in Bollywood. Over the years, he has successfully transitioned from being known primarily as an action star to becoming one of the industry’s most versatile performers.
The actor expressed hope that his cinematic journey will continue beyond four decades, emphasizing his passion for acting and his desire to keep entertaining audiences for years to come.
