PTI slams alleged corruption and “illegal tax” in Quetta, demands end to mismanagement

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders have strongly criticized the deteriorating condition of Quetta city, alleging large-scale corruption in municipal affairs and calling for an immediate end to what they described as “extortion in the name of Safa Quetta.”

Former Mayor of Quetta Rahim Kakar, along with senior lawyers and PTI leaders including Sardar Hassan Jamil Bostan, Miro Wais Advocate, Ahmed Shah Advocate, Umar Farooq Advocate, Abdullah Advocate, and Sardar Bahلول Khan Kakar, expressed serious concern over the city’s worsening condition.

In a joint statement, they claimed that billions of rupees are being wasted annually under various heads such as municipal administration, development schemes, street lighting, diesel fuel, and salaries, accusing the metropolitan administration of widespread corruption and financial mismanagement.

The leaders also criticized the so-called “Safa Quetta” initiative, alleging that citizens are being charged Rs. 500 per household per month. They termed it an “illegal monthly tax” and said PTI would not accept such measures under any circumstances.

They further stated that Quetta is facing severe problems including stray dogs, piles of garbage, and violations of building codes, while development funds are allegedly being misused without any visible improvement on the ground.

The PTI leaders also questioned the performance of the city administrator, saying that although he is considered an honest officer, he must come forward and prove his integrity by improving the city’s condition.

The statement concluded that PTI strongly condemns what it called anti-people policies and corruption in municipal governance, demanding immediate steps to ensure cleanliness in Quetta and the abolition of unlawful charges imposed on citizens.
