Solar Panels and Battery Prices Fall Following Reduction in Fuel Costs

ISLAMABAD: The recent reduction in petroleum prices has begun to impact local markets, with significant declines recorded in the prices of solar panels and batteries, offering potential relief to consumers planning to install solar energy systems.

According to market sources, the prices of solar panels have decreased by between Rs5,000 and Rs10,000 following the reduction in petrol and diesel prices. Traders believe that further price cuts may be seen in the coming weeks if current market trends continue.

Industry representatives explained that increases in petroleum prices affect transportation costs as well as the cost of imported goods, leading to higher prices for solar panels, inverters, and batteries. However, changing conditions in both local and international markets have now contributed to a downward trend in prices.

Market sources said that battery prices had risen sharply in recent months, with some models becoming Rs27,000 to Rs38,000 more expensive. Following the reduction in fuel prices, however, lower transportation and production costs have helped bring prices down. Batteries used in vehicles and UPS systems have reportedly become cheaper by up to Rs5,000, depending on the brand and model.

A similar decline has been observed in batteries used for solar energy systems, making solar installations more affordable for household consumers. With electricity tariffs remaining high, a growing number of citizens are turning to solar energy as an alternative source of power.

Experts believe that the latest reduction in solar equipment prices could encourage more middle-income households to invest in solar systems and reduce their dependence on conventional electricity.

Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has announced a solar financing initiative aimed at middle-class consumers. Under the proposed plan, citizens will be able to obtain solar systems by paying monthly installments equivalent to their existing electricity bills.

According to the Chief Minister, a household currently paying around Rs25,000 per month in electricity bills would pay a similar amount as a monthly installment for a solar system. Once the installments are completed after a few years, consumers would be able to benefit from significantly lower electricity costs.

The decline in solar equipment prices, coupled with financing initiatives, is expected to boost the adoption of renewable energy solutions across the country.
