Tight Security Arrangements in Quetta for Muharram; IG Police Assures Foolproof Security
Quetta (News Desk) — Security has been significantly tightened across Quetta during Muharram-ul-Haram to ensure peace and the protection of participants in religious gatherings and processions, officials said.
Inspector General of Police Balochistan Muhammad Tahir and Deputy Inspector General Police Imran Shaukat visited the Anjuman Ithna Ashari Imam Bargah Kalan Hazara as part of a security review. During the visit, they inspected arrangements made for Muharram processions and reviewed safety measures in detail.
Former president of the Balochistan Shia Conference, Dad Agha, welcomed the officials and briefed them on arrangements for Majalis, processions, and issues faced by the community during the holy month.
The IG Police assured that foolproof security would be provided throughout Balochistan, especially in Quetta, and all available resources would be utilized to prevent any untoward incident during Muharram.
He also visited Imam Bargahs in the Alamdar Road and Marriabad areas, directing authorities to deploy a strong contingent of Lady Police for women’s gatherings and to ensure strict security arrangements.
The IG further instructed Station House Officers (SHOs) to continue snap-checking operations and strengthen pickets at entry and exit points of the city.
In a separate visit, Frontier Corps Colonel Obaid, SHO Wali Achakzai, and senior officials of the district administration inspected Imam Bargah Sajjadia Satellite Town during the fifth Majlis-e-Aza. They held detailed consultations with management regarding security and administrative arrangements for Muharram.
Discussions also included the security plan for the main 9th Muharram procession, along with traffic management, sanitation, and facilitation measures along the procession route.
Imam Bargah representatives appreciated the efforts of law enforcement agencies, Frontier Corps, police, and district administration, expressing hope that all religious gatherings and processions would conclude peacefully through mutual cooperation.
