GILGIT: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Imran Nadeem has been elected Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Kifayat ur Rehman Advocate was elected Deputy Speaker, both unopposed.

The election took place during a session of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly presided over by outgoing Speaker Nazir Ahmed. Announcing the results, Nazir Ahmed said that PPP’s Imran Nadeem had been elected as the new Speaker and PML-N’s Kifayat ur Rehman as Deputy Speaker without facing any opposition.

According to the outgoing speaker, even the PTI-backed independent member did not oppose the election process.
