JD Vance Praises Field Marshal Asim Munir Ahead of Iran-US Technical Talks
Islamabad (News Desk): U.S. Vice President JD Vance has praised Asim Munir, describing him as a “great military leader” and crediting his strategic role in facilitating diplomatic efforts ahead of technical talks between Iran and the United States in Switzerland.
Speaking to the media alongside Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir before the start of the negotiations, Vance said the parties were looking toward a better future and hoped for a constructive role from Iran in promoting peace.
He commended Pakistan’s diplomatic contribution, stating that the country’s role had been widely appreciated internationally. He said both Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir had played commendable roles in advancing peace efforts.
The U.S. Vice President remarked that since being welcomed in Islamabad by the Prime Minister and the Field Marshal, he had often joked that two of the most important people in his life were an Indian and a Pakistani. He explained that the Indian was his wife, while the Pakistani was Field Marshal Asim Munir.
Vance further said that he had spoken with Asim Munir more frequently over the past three months than with almost anyone else, adding that “if it were not for the Field Marshal’s strategy, we might not be here today.”
Highlighting broader regional concerns, he said that peace in the Middle East remains a top priority and expressed concern over the situation in Lebanon. He added that U.S. President Donald Trump is working to reduce tensions in the region.
According to Vance, President Trump has authorized diplomatic efforts to find solutions to multiple international challenges. He said the goal is to build a future in which all parties work together for peace and prosperity and improve relations with the Iranian people.
Concluding his remarks, the Vice President described the day as an important opportunity for peace, development, and the resolution of ongoing crises.
