Lighthearted Moments and Open-Mic Surprises Steal Spotlight at G7 Summit

PARIS: The G7 Summit in France was not only dominated by discussions on global politics but also featured several lighthearted moments, with open microphones capturing candid exchanges among world leaders.
One of the memorable moments came when Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed a desire for a cup of coffee. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz jokingly asked, “And a cigarette?” Meloni replied with a smile that she had quit smoking a month earlier, drawing laughter from those in the room.
Football also found its way into diplomatic conversations. The Amir of Qatar playfully teased French President Emmanuel Macron about the success of Paris Saint-Germain. Macron responded that he was happy because it was, after all, a French team.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump humorously referred to UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as “handsome,” adding that when someone is so wealthy, there is no need to speak loudly.

In another friendly exchange, Chancellor Merz presented Trump with a jersey of the Germany national football team bearing the number 47, symbolizing his position as the 47th President of the United States.
Perhaps the most entertaining moment occurred on the final day of the summit when Trump entered the room smiling and declared, “I’m the Boss,” prompting laughter throughout the hall.
Despite the serious agenda of international diplomacy and economic cooperation, the G7 gathering produced several memorable and humorous moments that offered a lighter side of global leadership.
