Balochistan CM Directs Uninterrupted Power Supply, Calls for Strict Action Against Electricity Theft

Quetta: Chief Minister of Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti has directed authorities to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply for consumers and take effective action against power theft to prevent the loss of national resources.
The directives were issued during a meeting with a delegation of officials from the Quetta Electric Supply Company, led by Chairman of the Board of Directors Abdul Karim Jaffari, in Quetta on Thursday.
During the meeting, discussions focused on QESCO’s overall performance, improvements in power transmission and distribution, consumer issues, recovery of outstanding dues, reduction of line losses, and the use of modern technologies, including an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based meter reading system.
QESCO officials briefed the chief minister on the company’s ongoing reforms, future plans, and measures aimed at enhancing efficiency and transparency in the power sector. The delegation highlighted the implementation of AI-powered meter reading technology as a step toward improving service delivery and reducing irregularities.
Chief Minister Bugti welcomed the adoption of modern technology and said that AI-based systems would strengthen transparency, operational efficiency, and public confidence. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive strategy to improve bill recovery and eliminate electricity theft.
“The government will extend full support to projects that serve the public interest,” he said, adding that close coordination with federal institutions would continue to improve the province’s electricity infrastructure.
Separately, a delegation from the Women Parliamentarians Caucus also met with the chief minister to discuss women’s participation in parliamentary affairs, political inclusion, legislative representation, and issues affecting women in the province.
The delegation appreciated the provincial government’s efforts to promote women’s welfare, empowerment, and participation in decision-making processes.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Bugti said women are an essential and effective part of society and play a vital role in the development and prosperity of Balochistan. He reiterated the government’s commitment to providing equal opportunities for women in education, healthcare, employment, and political representation.
He also stressed that the views and recommendations of women lawmakers are important for improving public welfare initiatives and pledged to utilize all available resources for the social, economic, and political advancement of women across the province.
