Pakistan’s Freelancers Earn $1.6 Billion in 11 Months, Marking Major Digital Economy Growth

Islamabad:** Pakistan’s freelancers have earned $1.6 billion through exports in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year, marking a significant milestone for the country’s growing digital economy.

According to official figures, freelance export earnings rose by 80 percent during the period, reflecting rapid expansion in Pakistan’s IT-enabled services and online work sector.

In May 2026 alone, freelancers generated $169 million in export revenue. On a year-on-year basis, freelance earnings in May increased by 87 percent, highlighting strong growth momentum in the sector.

Analysts say the sharp rise in freelance exports underscores Pakistan’s increasing integration into the global digital marketplace, with thousands of professionals contributing to income generation through remote work platforms and international clients.

The trend is being viewed as a positive indicator for Pakistan’s broader IT and digital services industry, which continues to expand despite global economic uncertainties.
