China Claims Foreign Spy Agencies Using Sensor-Equipped Sea Animals for Maritime Surveillance

China has alleged that foreign intelligence agencies are using unconventional and advanced methods, including sensor-equipped marine animals, to monitor its territorial waters.

According to international media reports, China’s Ministry of State Security claimed that foreign espionage activities in surrounding seas are becoming increasingly sophisticated and pose a serious threat to national security.

In a statement posted on the Chinese social media platform WeChat, the ministry said that an “invisible covert war” is taking place in the seas around China, where foreign agencies are reportedly collecting sensitive data using advanced surveillance technologies.

The ministry further claimed that among these methods are large marine animals fitted with tracking and sensing devices, including what it described as “spy turtles” and “spy fish.” These animals are allegedly used to collect real-time data such as water temperature, salinity levels, and ocean current directions, which is then transmitted via satellite to foreign locations.

However, the statement did not provide specific details about where such animals were discovered or which agencies might be responsible for their use.

The claims highlight growing concerns in China over maritime security and the use of non-traditional surveillance techniques in intelligence gathering.
