U.S. Plans Limited Ground Operation Targeting Kharg Island and Strait of Hormuz Amid Internal Disagreements

Washington: The Washington Post has reported that the Pentagon has prepared military plans for potential ground operations against Iran President Donald Trump has not yet given final approval.

According to the report, the proposed operations would involve limited special operations rather than a full-scale war, with U.S. special forces and infantry units directly participating. Key targets under consideration include Iran’s strategic oil hub at Kharg Island and sensitive military installations near the Strait of Hormuz, aimed at weakening Tehran’s economic and military capabilities.

Military sources say specialized U.S. Marine units have already been deployed in the Middle East and are ready to launch operations if ordered. However, significant disagreements persist within the U.S. administration. Some senior officials argue that desired objectives could be achieved through airstrikes, diplomatic pressure, and economic sanctions, making a ground invasion unnecessarily risky.

Defense experts have warned that any ground incursion into Iran could prolong the conflict and produce highly complex and potentially catastrophic consequences on a global scale.
