Karachi Swelters as Heat Index Reaches 51°C, Meteorological Department Issues Warning

Islamabad (Kudrat Daily) — Karachi remained under the grip of intense heat and humid weather on Thursday, with the “feels-like” temperature reaching a scorching 51 degrees Celsius, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The Met Office reported that the city’s maximum actual temperature was recorded at 40°C during the day. However, high humidity levels significantly increased the heat index, making conditions feel much hotter for residents.

According to PMD data, the highest temperature of 40.5°C was recorded at Jinnah Terminal, while Gulistan-e-Jauhar recorded 40°C. Temperatures reached 39°C on Shahrah-e-Faisal, 38°C in Mauripur, and 34.6°C in Bin Qasim.

The Meteorological Department noted that Karachi’s average temperature for June is around 35.9°C, meaning Thursday’s temperature was approximately 4.1°C above normal.

Meanwhile, the weather department has warned residents to prepare for continued hot and humid conditions on Friday, with temperatures expected to rise to around 38°C.

Authorities have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight, stay hydrated, and take precautionary measures to prevent heat-related illnesses as the heatwave-like conditions persist.
