Pakistan Rejects Equating Situation in Indian-Administered Kashmir with Azad Kashmir
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reiterated that the use of water as a political tool or means of pressure is unacceptable under any circumstances, warning that such actions could pose a serious threat to regional peace and stability.
Speaking at the weekly media briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said Pakistan’s rights and interests regarding its water resources are inalienable and will be defended at every level.
He emphasized that Pakistan would utilize all available diplomatic, legal, and political avenues to safeguard its water rights and national interests.
Commenting on developments in the Middle East, Andrabi said Pakistan remains hopeful about the regional situation and has consistently played a constructive role in efforts aimed at promoting stability. He added that Pakistan continues to remain actively engaged in diplomatic initiatives related to the issue.
Responding to a question on Kashmir, the spokesperson rejected comparisons between conditions in Jammu and Kashmir and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, describing such comparisons as incorrect and misleading.
He reiterated Pakistan’s longstanding position that the people of Kashmir should be granted their right to self-determination in accordance with relevant resolutions of the United Nations.
The spokesperson stated that Pakistan remains committed to a resolution of the Kashmir dispute in line with United Nations resolutions and international obligations.
