Azad Kashmir Government Reinstates 177 FIRs, Withdraws Previous Protest Case Relief

MUZAFFARABAD: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to withdraw previously granted concessions related to protest cases and has announced the reinstatement of 177 First Information Reports (FIRs), according to official sources.

The decision marks a reversal of earlier relief measures extended under a settlement framework, government officials confirmed.

According to the official stance, an agreement signed on October 4, 2025, had stipulated that all outstanding issues would be resolved through a designated implementation committee, with both parties committed to following agreed procedures for dispute resolution.

However, the government stated that taking to the streets for protests, applying pressure, and creating an atmosphere of unrest constitutes a violation of the agreement.

Officials further said that recent actions were inconsistent with the spirit of the agreement, prompting authorities to restore previously withdrawn cases.

The government clarified that FIRs which had earlier been quashed or withdrawn have now been reactivated in accordance with the terms of the agreement. Under the latest decision, a total of 177 FIRs have been reinstated and will remain enforceable moving forward.
