Khawaja Saad Rafique Advises PML-N to Sit in Opposition in Gilgit-Baltistan

LAHORE: Senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Saad Rafique has advised his party to play the role of a constructive opposition in Gilgit-Baltistan following the recent elections.
In a statement, Saad Rafique rejected the perception that PML-N suffered a major defeat in the Gilgit-Baltistan polls. He claimed that the party had secured victory in eight seats and performed better than suggested by initial assessments.
According to the PML-N leader, two independent candidates backed by the party were also successful, while several other party candidates lost by very narrow margins.
Offering his recommendations to the party leadership, Saad Rafique said that PML-N should support the government formation process led by the Pakistan Peoples Party in the interest of maintaining the parliamentary system. However, he emphasized that the party should refrain from joining the government or accepting ministerial positions.
He suggested that by remaining outside the government while providing parliamentary support, PML-N could effectively fulfill its responsibilities as an opposition party and contribute to political stability in Gilgit-Baltistan.
