Philippines Earthquake Death Toll Rises to 41 After 7.8 Magnitude Quake
MANILA: The death toll from the powerful earthquake that struck near the Philippine island of Mindanao has risen to 41, according to authorities, while more than 450 people have been injured.
The 7.8-magnitude quake hit the region on the previous day, causing widespread damage and triggering emergency response operations across affected areas.
Officials said around 10,000 people have been evacuated from the impacted zones, while search and rescue teams are still looking for four missing individuals.
The earthquake was recorded at a shallow depth of approximately 10 kilometers, which significantly increased the intensity of shaking felt at the surface.
Reports from disaster management agencies also confirmed damage to buildings in several areas, with some structures collapsing as a result of the strong tremors. Rescue and relief operations are continuing as authorities assess the full scale of the destruction.
