MUMBAI: Bollywood actress Dia Mirza has made an emotional revelation about her personal life, saying that her parents’ separation played a significant role in shaping her personality, values, and outlook on life.

The 44-year-old actor shared in a podcast that she learned important lessons of integrity, social responsibility, and standing firm on principles from her father.

Dia Mirza said her father was a highly principled man who never compromised on his beliefs despite financial difficulties. She added that he always prioritized ethical values and avoided work or situations he considered morally wrong.

According to her, one of the key reasons behind differences between her parents was her father’s strict stance on the kind of projects and professional decisions he was willing to be part of.

Recounting an incident, the actress said her father once refused to work at a factory that discharged industrial waste into a nearby river. At the time, the family was facing financial hardship, but he chose his principles over better income and declined to be associated with unethical practices.

Dia Mirza said this decision left a lasting impact on her life and taught her that the right choice is not always the easiest one, and sometimes comes at a personal cost. However, she emphasized that staying true to one’s principles is the true definition of success.

She further noted that adults often face difficult choices in life, and while the consequences can be painful, maintaining moral values and personal ethics is what defines character.
