Government Increases Petroleum Levy, Denies Full Relief to Consumers

ISLAMABAD: The government has increased the petroleum levy, depriving consumers of expected relief in fuel prices, according to official documents.

As per details, adjustments have been made in the petroleum levy on different petroleum products, resulting in mixed changes in fuel taxation. However, the overall impact has prevented full relief for consumers, particularly on petrol prices.

Official documents show that the petroleum levy on petrol has been increased by Rs24.74 per litre. The levy has been raised from Rs91.34 per litre to Rs116.08 per litre, significantly increasing government revenue from petrol consumption.

On the other hand, the petroleum levy on high-speed diesel has been reduced by Rs24.34 per litre. The levy on diesel has been lowered from Rs68.93 per litre to Rs44.59 per litre.

According to the documents, the reduction in the levy on diesel is aimed at stabilizing its price in the market, while the increase in petrol levy has offset expected relief for consumers.

The adjustment in petroleum levy has effectively limited any significant decrease in overall fuel prices, leaving consumers without substantial relief.
