Lahore High Court Grants Bail to Husband in Dowry Car Sale Case

Lahore: The Lahore High Court has confirmed the interim bail of a man accused by his wife of selling a car she had received as part of her dowry, in a case involving allegations of criminal breach of trust and fraud.

The court approved the husband’s bail against surety bonds worth Rs200,000.

In a written judgment, Justice Tariq Mahmood Bajwa observed that the complainant had registered a case against her husband for allegedly selling a vehicle that had been entrusted to him. Court records showed that the car was registered in the wife’s name, while the husband was using it.

According to the judgment, the husband maintained that the criminal case was filed as a result of an ongoing family dispute. The court was informed that the wife had already filed a separate claim regarding dowry items before a family court.

The ruling noted that the complainant herself had described the vehicle as a dowry item in the pending family court proceedings. However, she did not mention the ongoing family litigation in the FIR.

The court further observed that official records still showed the vehicle as registered in the wife’s name.

Justice Bajwa stated that the case appeared to stem from deteriorating relations between the spouses. The court also noted that the accused had joined the investigation and that no evidence of mala fide intent had been presented on record.

On these grounds, the Lahore High Court confirmed the husband’s interim bail, subject to the submission of surety bonds worth Rs200,000.

The allegations in the case remain subject to legal proceedings, and no final determination of guilt or liability has been made by the courts.
