Trump Says Iran Deal Could Be Reached Within a Week

WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed optimism that an agreement with Iran could be finalized within the next week.
Speaking in an interview with an American television network, Trump said he believes a deal with Iran would lead to an extension of the ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for international maritime traffic.
Earlier, Trump had stated that negotiations between the United States and Iran were progressing rapidly.
He also said that he had no issue with Iran’s decision to suspend communications, adding that the move did not necessarily mean the United States would resume military operations.
Trump further emphasized that the United States would maintain its naval blockade of Iran and wait until Tehran is prepared to accept terms acceptable to Washington. He described the blockade as “ironclad” and said it would remain in place until a deal is reached.
