Hajj Pilgrimage Begins as Millions of Pilgrims Arrive in Mina Amid Extreme Heat Warning
Makkah: The annual Hajj pilgrimage has officially begun as millions of pilgrims started arriving in the tent city of Mina on Sunday. The movement of pilgrims to Mina is expected to continue until this afternoon. Pilgrims will spend the night there before departing for Arafat on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah to perform Wuquf-e-Arafat, the most important ritual of Hajj.
Saudi Arabia’s meteorological department has warned of extremely hot weather during the pilgrimage, forecasting temperatures as high as 47 degrees Celsius by May 25. Authorities also cautioned that humidity levels could reach 40 percent, while dusty winds are expected in open areas.
According to Saudi Press Agency, officials have urged pilgrims to follow safety instructions, stay hydrated, and take precautions against heat exhaustion and dehydration.
Saudi authorities said the number of international pilgrims arriving in the Kingdom had exceeded 1.518 million by Friday afternoon, with more than 1.457 million arriving by air.
To ensure the safety and comfort of pilgrims, Saudi authorities have increased shaded areas, installed mist fans, and expanded medical services at the holy sites.
