Power Division Warns Electricity Consumers Against Fake QR Codes and Online Scams

ISLAMABAD: A spokesperson for the Power Division has issued an advisory warning electricity consumers to remain cautious of fake QR codes and suspicious links being circulated under the name of government subsidy schemes.

The advisory comes amid rising concerns over online fraud attempts targeting electricity users across the country.

According to the spokesperson, scammers are misleading users by asking them to click on links and share personal information in multiple steps, and later enter a six-digit verification code on the same fraudulent platform.

He further warned that some elements are using QR codes to deceive consumers and steal sensitive data under false pretenses of subsidy registration or bill-related services.

The advisory clarified that there is no legal mechanism under which electricity consumers are required to share personal or billing information through any third-party link or platform other than official channels.

It stated that any such process is fake and illegal, adding that criminal elements involved in these scams have already been reported to law enforcement agencies.

Consumers have been strictly advised not to enter any personal details on unknown websites, digital forms, or printed QR codes claiming to offer electricity subsidies or related benefits.
