KP Government Issues Notification to Divide Swat District into Two

Swat: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has issued an official notification to divide Swat district into two separate districts in line with a cabinet decision.

According to the notification issued by the provincial department, the headquarters of Upper (Bar) Swat will be located in Matta, while Swat district’s headquarters will be at Gul Kada in Babuzai tehsil.

The newly created Upper Swat district will comprise the tehsils of Matta, Bahrain, and Khwazakhela. Meanwhile, Swat district will include the tehsils of Babuzai, Kabal, Charbagh, and Barikot.

The decision to bifurcate Swat district was approved during the 43rd meeting of the provincial cabinet held on December 19, 2025.

With the division of Swat, the total number of districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has increased to 40.
