Prominent Balochi Poet and Professor Ghamkhwar Hayat Killed in Armed Attack in Nushki–Quetta Road Incident

A tragic incident occurred on the Nushki–Quetta route where a well-known academic and literary figure, Professor Ghamkhwar Hayat, was killed in a targeted armed attack, according to initial reports.
The incident took place when Professor Ghamkhwar Hayat was traveling from Nushki to Quetta. Police sources said unidentified armed men opened fire on his vehicle, resulting in his death on the spot.
Professor Ghamkhwar Hayat, a respected Brahui poet, fiction writer, and former faculty member of Balochi language and literature at educational institutions including Government Degree College, was widely regarded in academic and literary circles for his contributions to regional literature and education.
Following the incident, the news sparked widespread grief and outrage among students, writers, and civil society members. They demanded immediate action from the Balochistan government, the Home Department, and law enforcement agencies to arrest those responsible and ensure the safety of teachers, commuters, and civilians across the province.
Authorities have launched an investigation and initiated efforts to trace the attackers.
