Xi Jinping Calls for Diplomacy as He Meets Trump in Beijing

BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping met US President Donald Trump in Beijing and stressed that diplomacy and dialogue are the only solutions to global crises, urging both nations to pursue mutual respect and peaceful coexistence despite their differences.
President Trump arrived at the Great Hall of the People during his official visit to China, where he was welcomed by President Xi Jinping in a formal reception ceremony. The two leaders exchanged a handshake before introducing members of their delegations and proceeding to bilateral talks.
Addressing the meeting attended by senior officials from both countries, President Xi welcomed the American delegation and emphasized the importance of cooperation between the world’s two largest economies.
“All global crises can only be resolved through diplomacy and negotiations,” Xi said. “China and the United States are two major powers, and global stability is our shared objective.”
The Chinese president stated that maintaining global peace and economic growth is a historic responsibility for both countries. He added that the world was closely watching the Beijing talks amid rising international tensions and challenges to global supply chains.
Xi also referred to the Iran conflict and warned that mishandling sensitive issues such as Taiwan could increase tensions between Washington and Beijing. He said the two countries should view each other as partners rather than rivals and work together for mutual prosperity.
“We should help each other succeed and find the right path to move forward together,” Xi said.
President Trump, in his opening remarks, described it as an honor to meet Xi Jinping and called him a “great leader” and a friend. He said he had brought “some of the world’s best business leaders” with him on the visit and expressed optimism about the future of US-China relations.
Trump said the summit would focus heavily on bilateral trade and predicted that strong relations between the two countries would continue for decades.
“Our relationship has always been good, and whenever problems arose, we solved them together,” Trump said. “I would call you, and you would call me. People don’t realize how quickly we resolved issues.”
President Trump arrived in Beijing a day earlier on a two-day official visit to China.
