Karachi Matric Exam Mismanagement Probe Completed; Suspension of Top Officials Recommended

Karachi: An investigative committee formed to examine allegations of mismanagement and irregularities in the Karachi Matriculation examinations has finalized its report, recommending strict action against senior officials, including the chairman and controller of examinations.
According to sources, the chairman of the Karachi Matric Board, Ghulam Hussain Sohoo, has resigned from his position following the findings. The committee had recommended his suspension and initiation of criminal proceedings through the anti-corruption department. Sources say the resignation was submitted to avoid suspension and to retain his position in the Federal Board.
The resignation has been sent to the Secretary of the Sindh Boards Department, who will forward it to the controlling authority through the provincial minister. The final decision—whether to accept the resignation or proceed with punitive action—will be made by the Chief Minister.
The report highlights widespread irregularities, stating that over 170 examination centers were changed by the board administration. It alleges that Chairman Sohoo, in collaboration with various individuals and agents, was involved in these changes.
Several agents and school officials, including headmasters, were also named for facilitating the transfer of examination centers through the chairman and the controller of examinations. The committee has recommended strict punishment for all individuals found responsible.
Additionally, the report calls for the immediate suspension of Chairman Ghulam Hussain Sohoo and Controller of Examinations Ahmed Khan Chhutto, along with criminal proceedings against them. Disciplinary action has also been recommended against other officials, including the board secretary Naveed Gujar and Deputy Controller Imran Butt.
Sindh Minister for Boards and Universities, Ismail Rahoo, stated that no pressure or recommendations would be entertained and that decisions would be made strictly in accordance with the findings of the investigative report.
