Construction of Khojak Tunnel Officially Launched to Improve Travel and Trade Connectivity

Quetta – The federal government has officially launched the construction of the Khojak Tunnel on the Quetta–Chaman International Highway, a key development aimed at improving transportation, trade, and travel facilities in Balochistan.
According to officials, the Khojak Pass is one of the most important yet difficult mountainous routes in the region, where harsh weather conditions, steep terrain, and heavy traffic often cause long delays and hardships for passengers and commercial vehicles. The tunnel project is expected to significantly reduce travel time while providing safer and more convenient transport facilities for both commuters and freight carriers.
The Quetta–Chaman highway is considered a vital international trade route that connects Pakistan to Afghanistan through the border town of Chaman, and further extends access to Central Asian countries. Due to its strategic importance, the project is being seen as a major step toward enhancing regional trade, transit, and economic activity.
Officials said that once completed, the tunnel will speed up the movement of goods between Pakistan and Afghanistan and improve import-export operations. It is also expected to boost business activities, create employment opportunities, and strengthen the local economy in border regions.
The Khojak Tunnel is being described as a significant infrastructure milestone for Balochistan, aimed at improving regional connectivity and strengthening the Pak-Afghan trade corridor in the future.
Public circles have welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that the project will be completed within the stipulated time so that both citizens and the business community can benefit from its outcomes at the earliest.
