Final Decision on Summer Vacations in Educational Institutions After May 15: Punjab Education Minister

Islamabad: Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has stated that the final decision regarding summer vacations in educational institutions will be made after May 15.
Sharing key details about the 2026 summer holidays, the minister dismissed ongoing speculation and clarified that no final announcement will be made before mid-May.
He revealed that the provincial government is considering reducing summer vacations by 15 to 20 days this year to make up for academic losses. The government is also planning to increase the number of teaching days in the academic year from 180 to 190 to ensure timely completion of the syllabus. In addition, a proposal to cut winter vacations by 5 to 6 days is under review.
Rana Sikandar Hayat emphasized that any official schedule for holidays will only be announced after receiving final approval from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. He noted that excessive holidays waste valuable academic time, which needs to be addressed.
Meanwhile, following a heatwave alert issued by the Meteorological Department in Punjab, experts have indicated the possibility of early vacations. They warned that if temperatures become extreme by the end of May, the government may be compelled to announce early holidays—similar to last year—to protect students’ health.
