Reema Khan Breaks Silence on Meera and Resham Controversies, Criticizes Disrespect in Interviews

LAHORE: Renowned former Pakistani film star Reema Khan has spoken out on the ongoing controversies involving actresses Meera and Resham, expressing concern over the treatment of artists in media interviews.
Reema Khan, once a leading figure in Pakistan’s film industry and now based in the United States after her marriage to Dr. Tariq Shahab, is currently in Pakistan and actively engaging in media interactions. She rose to fame with her debut film Bulandi and went on to star in several successful projects including Koi Tujh Sa Kahan, Zameen Aasman, Jo Dar Gaya Woh Mar Gaya, and Nikah.
During a recent appearance on a private television program, Reema addressed the controversy surrounding Meera and criticized certain interview practices in Pakistani media. She specifically referred to inappropriate questioning by host Irshad Bhatti, saying that such behavior in interviews is disrespectful and diminishes the dignity of artists.
“Our podcasters and hosts often humiliate artists during interviews and treat them as if they are part of a current affairs debate show,” Reema said. She emphasized that actors, whether male or female, deserve respect and should not be subjected to personal or offensive questioning.
She further added that in Pakistan, media discussions often shift away from an artist’s professional work and focus on their personal lives, which she believes harms both the guest and the credibility of the host.
Speaking about Resham, Reema described her positively, wishing her happiness and advising her to avoid believing unverified claims. “She should not rely on what others say and should assess situations herself instead of paying attention to hearsay,” she said.
Reema’s comments have sparked discussion on social media regarding media ethics and the treatment of entertainment personalities in talk shows and podcasts.
