Irshad Bhatti Responds to Backlash Over Meera Interview Controversy

LAHORE: Pakistani journalist and TV host Irshad Bhatti has responded to criticism following his recent interview with actress Meera, which sparked debate on social media.
The controversy emerged after clips from the interview—conducted in connection with Meera’s upcoming film Psycho—went viral online. In the clips, Bhatti is seen asking questions about the actress’s past relationships and controversies, which many viewers and celebrities deemed inappropriate.
Several figures from the entertainment industry criticized the line of questioning, calling it unethical. Actress Zara Noor Abbas expressed strong disapproval, stating that Meera was put in an uncomfortable situation despite wanting to discuss her film. She added that such questions would not be tolerated if directed at a male guest.
At the same time, many users praised Meera for handling the situation with patience and composure.
Responding to the backlash, Irshad Bhatti said the questions he asked had previously been discussed on multiple platforms and were part of public record, including matters addressed in courts.

He further revealed that the interview was arranged after several attempts, claiming that Meera had initially postponed multiple times. Bhatti also stated that the actress was paid for the interview, emphasizing that it was not purely for film promotion but a personal discussion.
He urged critics to watch the full podcast instead of reacting to short viral clips, arguing that the context had been misrepresented online.
