Pakistan’s Strategic Importance Will Grow as Global Trade Shifts Toward Region: Lt Gen (R) Nasser Janjua

Nasser Khan Janjua, former National Security Adviser of Pakistan, has said that the country—particularly Balochistan and Gwadar Port—will play an increasingly important role in future regional and global trade routes.
Speaking at an event organized by the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Janjua said Pakistan has historically been viewed as a buffer zone, and long-standing tensions in Afghanistan have directly impacted the country. He also noted that India has no direct access to Central Asia without passing through Pakistan, adding that future trade flows are likely to shift toward the region.
LCCI President Fahim-ur-Rehman Saigol also highlighted the growing strategic importance of Gwadar Port, saying it will play a key role in Pakistan’s economic future. He stated that Balochistan and Gwadar have the potential to connect Pakistan with the Middle East, Central Asia, China, and Europe, potentially transforming the regional economy.
He further added that major trade and energy corridors are expected to pass through Pakistan in the future, significantly enhancing the country’s geopolitical and economic importance.
During the session, a memorandum of understanding was also signed between the Lahore Chamber and Gwadar Gymkhana to promote cooperation and economic linkages.
