Imam of Grand Mosque Warns Against Spreading Rumors on Social Media

Makkah: The Imam of the Grand Mosque, Sheikh Saleh bin Humaid, has issued a strong warning against the spread of rumors and unverified information on social media.

According to Arab media reports, during the Friday sermon at the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Sheikh Saleh bin Humaid said that individuals involved in sharing or promoting false information carry a serious moral responsibility.

He cautioned that spreading misinformation not only harms individuals and society but also increases the ethical and spiritual burden on those involved.

The Imam urged worshippers to remain steadfast and avoid becoming entangled in worldly controversies, emphasizing the importance of truthfulness and integrity in public discourse.

He further stated that a person’s true character is revealed during times of difficulty and stress.

Saudi authorities have repeatedly warned against misinformation on social media. The Public Prosecution of Saudi Arabia has stated that producing, sharing, or promoting false information can result in penalties of up to five years in prison, fines of up to three million Saudi riyals, and confiscation of devices used in the offense.
