PkMAP Rejects Austerity Measures, Cites Economic Hardship in Balochistan

Quetta:The Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) has strongly rejected government measures taken in the name of austerity, terming the closure of businesses and disruptions in electricity and gas supply as unacceptable.

In a press release issued from the party’s provincial secretariat, PkMAP stated that traders, shopkeepers, laborers, and people from all walks of life are already facing severe economic difficulties.

The party criticized the government’s policies, saying that key sectors such as industry and education are already in decline, while basic facilities like roads and clean drinking water remain inadequate. It further highlighted rising petroleum prices and high transport fares as additional burdens on the public.

According to the statement, the administration has failed to control inflation or enforce official price lists, alleging that authorities are instead exploiting citizens through fines. The party claimed that meat prices surged from Rs1,800 per kilogram to Rs2,600 within days, reflecting poor market regulation.

PkMAP emphasized that increasing production is the fundamental way to control inflation and unemployment, but alleged that authorities are instead reducing productive activities, pushing the economy toward further بحران.

The statement also criticized electricity outages, noting that while rural areas already lack power, shutting electricity in urban markets is effectively crippling business activities and allegedly creating opportunities for corruption.

The party termed the policy of closing markets at 8 pm and suspending electricity supply as anti-people and demanded immediate restoration of electricity in Quetta and other cities across the province.
