Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has credited Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir with playing a “historic role” in de-escalating tensions between Iran and the United States, as both sides agreed to resolve issues through dialogue.
In a televised address to the nation, the prime minister said he was speaking at a “historic moment” when, by the grace of God, the focus had shifted from war to peace. He noted that parties which were recently on the brink of conflict have now agreed to settle matters through negotiations.
Sharif expressed gratitude to the leadership of both Iran and the United States, stating that they not only agreed to a temporary ceasefire on his proposal but also accepted his invitation to come to Islamabad for peace talks.
He added that formal negotiations aimed at establishing lasting peace would now take place in Islamabad.
Meanwhile, a high-level Iranian delegation led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has arrived in the capital. The delegation was warmly received by Field Marshal Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and the Speaker of the National Assembly.
