Quetta Electric Supply Company Takes Steps to Combat Power Theft and End Load Shedding

The Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) is implementing special measures to curb electricity theft and eliminate load shedding. As part of this initiative, a phased approach is being used to make the power lines (feeders) in Quetta free from electricity theft. Special “combing” and meter securing work has already begun, and the 11Kv Shahbaz Town feeder has been completed and declared free from load shedding. This means no load shedding will occur on this feeder going forward.

Under this campaign, feeders at the sub-division level are being selected, and meters are being reinstalled at prominent locations to comply with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) safety guidelines. The goal is to ensure both the safety of public property and accurate, timely meter readings while eliminating electricity theft.

In the first phase, the 11Kv Shahbaz Town feeder, which serves areas like Chaman Housing Scheme and Shahbaz Town, was selected. The special combing and meter securing work in these areas has been completed. After successfully preventing electricity theft, the 11Kv Shahbaz Town feeder has been exempted from load shedding, meaning no load shedding will be carried out on this feeder from now on.

In the next phase, the same process will be repeated for other feeders in Quetta. These efforts are expected to effectively eliminate direct and illegal connections, ensure the prevention of electricity theft, and lead to the cessation of load shedding. The success of this campaign will provide consumers with uninterrupted power supply and better voltage.

QESCO has appealed to all consumers to cooperate with the special combing and meter securing campaign. Consumers are encouraged to play their individual role in ensuring the proper installation of their electric meters at safe and suitable locations and to report individuals involved in electricity theft. To report power theft, consumers can send a video message indicating the location to the WhatsApp number 03198088013. The identity of those sending the messages will remain confidential.
