Trump Says Strait of Hormuz Fully Open, Warns Iran to Honor Any Future Agreement
WASHINGTON, June 23, 2026 — U.S. President Donald Trump said that the Strait of Hormuz is now fully open and praised Iran for what he described as a positive approach regarding the strategically important waterway.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, President Trump stated that maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz had resumed normally.
“The Strait of Hormuz is completely open,” Trump said, adding that Iran was taking constructive steps in relation to the vital shipping route.
However, the U.S. president also warned that Iran must comply with any agreement reached in the future.
“If Iran does not abide by an agreement, I will do whatever is necessary,” Trump said. He added that there would be no problems or disputes between the two countries as long as Iran continued to show respect toward the United States.
Trump further expressed confidence that Iran would eventually agree to extensive weapons inspections and measures aimed at ensuring long-term transparency regarding its nuclear activities.
“Everyone knows that Iran will agree to large-scale weapons inspections,” he said, adding that Tehran would be prepared to guarantee nuclear transparency for a long period in the future.
The remarks come amid ongoing international attention on Iran’s nuclear program and regional security, particularly the importance of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy transit route through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supplies passes.
