Sindh Govt Announces Petrol Subsidy for Motorcycle Owners, Payments Begin

Karachi: Murad Ali Shah has announced details of a petrol subsidy program for motorcycle owners, with disbursement already underway across the province.
Under the scheme, eligible motorcycle owners will receive a subsidy of Rs57 per liter for up to 20 liters, while the Sindh government will bear up to Rs100 per liter. The initiative aims to provide relief amid rising fuel costs.
The Chief Minister demonstrated the motorcycle registration process, stating that vehicles must be registered in the applicant’s name to qualify. The registration process is available عبر the excise department’s online portal, and a mobile application will become operational within the next three days.
The program, titled Peoples Motorcycle Fuel Subsidy Program, allows users to register using their CNIC and motorcycle registration number. Subsidy payments will be transferred directly into bank accounts, for which applicants must provide their IBAN number.
Shah also announced that the Rs500 transfer fee has been abolished, and excise offices will remain open until midnight, including weekends, to facilitate registrations. After registration, applicants will receive a confirmation message and tracking ID.
According to officials, data will be shared with Sindh Bank every three hours for verification. Accounts in Sindh Bank will be verified within 24 hours, while other banks may take up to three days. Payments will be withheld in case of incorrect information.
A toll-free helpline has also been set up to assist applicants, and only one subsidy per CNIC will be allowed. With around 6.7 million registered motorcycles in Sindh, the government plans to disburse April’s subsidy within the same month.
The Chief Minister added that transport associations have assured that fares will not be increased; otherwise, strict action will be taken. He noted that instead of making public transport free, the government opted to subsidize private transport to maximize public relief.
