Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Implements 4-Day Working Week for Public Schools

Peshawar: As part of a cost-saving initiative, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has introduced a 4-day working week for government educational institutions across the province.

The Elementary and Secondary Education Department has issued a notification outlining the new working hours. According to the notification, Friday and Saturday will now be weekly holidays, with the schedule effective immediately from April 1, 2026.

The department cited rising fuel prices and supply shortages as the reason for the adjustment. Under the new schedule:

Primary schools will operate from 7:30 AM to 1:35 PM
Middle schools from 7:30 AM to 2:35 PM
High and higher secondary schools will finish at 3:00 PM

Officials say the move is expected to reduce operational costs while also helping to run the education system more efficiently.
