Relief Before Crackdown: Karachi Police Extend Deadline for Approved Number Plates to April 1

Karachi: In a move offering temporary relief to vehicle owners, Sindh Police has extended the deadline for installing government-approved number plates to April 1, 2026, ahead of a strict enforcement drive.

According to an official statement issued on the directives of Additional IG Karachi Azad Khan, citizens have been urged to ensure that their cars and motorcycles carry only officially approved number plates.

The police confirmed that a comprehensive crackdown against unauthorized, fancy, or non-standard number plates will begin from April 1 across Karachi. Legal action will also be taken against individuals driving without valid licenses.

Authorities stated that the earlier deadline of March 30 had been extended to facilitate citizens, allowing them more time to comply with the law and avoid penalties. Officials emphasized that the use of non-approved number plates not only violates the law but also creates identification issues and increases security risks.

The Karachi Police spokesperson reiterated that strict action will be taken without discrimination during the campaign to ensure enforcement of traffic and security regulations across the city.
