Fire Breaks Out Again at Karachi’s Gul Plaza; Basement Blaze Contained

Islamabad: A fire erupted once more at the previously affected Gul Plaza in Karachi, with firefighters bringing the basement blaze under control after several hours of effort.

Chief Fire Officer K.M.C Humayun Khan told the media that smoke initially had no proper outlet from the basement, making firefighting challenging. The fire was reported around 5:30 PM, and teams responded promptly to contain it. Most of the basement and shops had survived the earlier fire.

Authorities suspect that the fire originated in the leftover scrap and debris inside some of the shops that had remained intact. Smoke was cleared using specialized extractors, and investigations are underway to determine the exact cause.

Deputy Commissioner Amir Fazal Owaisi suggested that the fire may have been started by drug addicts who had entered the sealed building. Several addicts were found inside when the fire brigade and police arrived.

Tanzeer Pasta, president of the Gul Plaza Management Committee, clarified that the blaze was not a result of any conspiracy. Police have detained three individuals suspected of involvement. Officials noted that the fire may have started due to burning copper by the addicts. Demolition of the damaged building is scheduled to begin next week.
