Shawwal Moon Not Sighted in Pakistan; Eid-ul-Fitr to Be Observed on March 21: Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee

ISLAMABAD: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee (CRHC) announced that the Shawwal moon has not been sighted anywhere in Pakistan. As a result, the 30th day of Ramadan will be observed tomorrow, Friday, and Eid-ul-Fitr 2026 will be celebrated on Saturday, March 21.

The meeting to sight the Shawwal moon was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of CRHC Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad. Members of the central committee, along with representatives from the Pakistan Meteorological Department and SUPARCO, attended the session.

Apart from Islamabad, zonal moon-sighting committees held meetings across all provincial capitals and other regions of the country.

Following the Islamabad meeting, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad confirmed that no verified reports of the Shawwal moon had been received from any part of the country. He stated that Ramadan 1447 Hijri will be completed as 30 days, and Eid-ul-Fitr will fall on March 21, 2026.

Reports indicate that the zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in Peshawar received six testimonies. Five were submitted via telephone, while one witness appeared in person. Although these testimonies were forwarded to the central committee, they were not accepted on religious grounds.
