Pakistan to Launch 5G Services in Islamabad on Eid ul-Fitr

Islamabad: In a major development for telecom users, the government has decided to roll out 5G services in selected areas of Islamabad during Eid ul-Fitr, allowing citizens to experience ultra-fast internet for the first time.

According to sources, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has finalized all arrangements and is set to issue 5G licenses to telecom companies. Officials confirmed that licenses will be granted imminently, enabling companies to launch services in time for Eid.

Telecom operators have already submitted the required bank guarantees to PTA. Under the licensing terms, each company is required to provide a bank guarantee of $15 million and meet strict rollout conditions.

As part of the agreement, each operator must install at least 1,000 new telecom sites, including 200 sites in remote and underserved areas to improve nationwide connectivity.

Sources further revealed that three major telecom companies will receive licenses simultaneously after successfully acquiring 5G spectrum. The PTA recently concluded the spectrum auction, selling 480 MHz out of a total 597 MHz, generating approximately $510 million in revenue for the government.

Initially, 5G services will be available in limited parts of the federal capital, with plans for gradual expansion across the country.

The launch marks a significant step forward in Pakistan’s digital transformation, promising faster connectivity, improved user experience, and enhanced technological infrastructure.
