Deputy Commissioner South Submits Response to Judicial Commission on Gul Plaza Tragedy

Karachi: The Deputy Commissioner (South) has submitted a written response to the judicial commission investigating the Gul Plaza fire.

In the response, the Deputy Commissioner stated that the district administration received the first report of the fire at Gul Plaza at approximately 10:27 PM through the Emergency Control Room and the Wireless Coordination System.

According to the submission, the primary role of the Deputy Commissioner and the Assistant Commissioner of the Garden Division was to promptly mobilize the administration. The Deputy Commissioner reached the site at 10:31 PM and remained present to ensure coordination among various agencies.

Upon arrival, rescue agencies were contacted immediately, and a District Emergency Operations Center was established to maintain effective communication between all relevant departments and to facilitate services for the victims.

The response highlighted close coordination with the Deputy Commissioner Office’s fire brigade, Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC), and Rescue 1122. Regarding the roles of the police and traffic police, it was noted that these departments operate under their own administration and are responsible for maintaining law and order, regulating traffic, and securing the rescue area during emergencies.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that the district administration effectively managed inter-agency coordination and provided essential administrative and logistical support during the incident.
