Karachi Records 206 Deaths in Traffic Accidents in First 70 Days of 2026, Heavy Vehicles Cause 67 Fatalities

Karachi: Fatal traffic accidents involving heavy vehicles continue unabated in Karachi, with a total of 206 people losing their lives in the first 70 days of 2026.
According to Express News, among the 206 fatalities, 147 were men, 29 women, 21 boys, and 9 girls. Additionally, 2,080 citizens sustained injuries during this period.
Of the deaths caused by heavy vehicles, 67 occurred in fatal collisions, with trailers being the leading cause, responsible for 35 deaths.
Chaudhry Shahid, spokesperson for Chhipa Foundation, stated that traffic accidents across various parts of the city have resulted in injuries to 1,633 men, 336 women, 81 boys, and 30 girls so far this year.
Breaking down fatalities from heavy vehicle accidents: 35 deaths were due to trailer collisions, 14 from water tanker accidents, 7 from Mazda collisions, 7 from bus collisions, and 4 from dumper trucks.
The rising number of deadly heavy vehicle accidents has sparked widespread anger among Karachi residents.
In a recent incident near Ayesha Manzil Furniture Market in the Central District, a trailer crushed two young brothers riding a motorcycle to death. The deceased were identified as Atif and Tabish, who had gone out for Eid shopping.
