KP Government Launches Household Solarization Program for Poor Families

Peshawar: The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced the launch of a household solarization program aimed at promoting renewable energy use and supporting underprivileged families.

The decision was made during a meeting in Peshawar presided over by Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi, where officials finalized the administrative procedures to begin distribution of solar systems.

According to the officials, the program will benefit 130,000 households across the province, including the merged districts. Under the scheme, 65,000 households will receive free solar systems, while another 65,000 will get systems at a 50 percent subsidy, with the option to pay in installments.

The meeting also confirmed that the project’s PC-1 documentation has been completed and will be submitted for formal approval at the upcoming meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party.

The Accelerated Implementation Program (AIP) is developing a separate solarization project for the merged districts, which will provide solar systems to 120,000 households, improving electricity access in remote areas.

Officials stated that solar unit distribution among districts will be based on population. The scheme will particularly assist widows, persons with disabilities, temporarily displaced families, disaster-affected households, and communities without electricity access.

Authorities noted that the initiative will reduce dependence on conventional energy systems and provide low-cost, clean energy solutions, benefiting thousands of households across the province.
