Pakistan Pursues Strategic Privatization: PIA Sale and Investments in Power Sector Underway

Under the government’s economic reform strategy, organized steps are being taken to **privatize key national institutions** effectively.
**Khurram Shehzad**, Advisor to the Finance Minister, described the **Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) privatization** as a **landmark and historic step**, adding that it has injected new momentum into the sector and is expected to bring further improvements in the coming days.
He stated that investments in **Power Distribution Companies** will enhance the electricity sector, and following the **Islamabad International Airport**, other airports in the country will also be outsourced.
In addition to airports, hotels and banks will also be included in the government’s privatization program. The **Privatization Commission of Pakistan** held its 249th meeting under the chairmanship of **Muhammad Ali**.
Khurram Shehzad further said that the inclusion of **FFC** in the PIA buyer consortium has been recommended to the **Cabinet Committee on Privatization** for final approval. He noted that the Privatization Commission Board verified FFC as legally qualified to be part of the consortium before recommending its inclusion.
