Emergency Declared at Sukkur Barrage After Temporary Dam Collapse During Repair Work

Sukkur:An unexpected incident during ongoing repair work at **Sukkur Barrage** forced authorities to take emergency measures after a temporary structure collapsed due to rising water pressure.

According to sources, the pressure of water increased to an unusual level during the rehabilitation work, causing the temporary dam built at the site to break, which led to panic and confusion among workers and officials present there.

Reports also emerged that electrical current was detected in the barrage gates, prompting authorities to immediately halt rescue and restoration operations for safety reasons.

Workers were withdrawn from the area as a precaution, while technical experts were called in to assess the situation before work can safely resume.

Sources said the incident occurred while old gates of the barrage were being replaced as part of a rehabilitation project.
