Court Orders KMC and TMC to Pay Over Rs 99 Million Compensation in Shadman Nullah Tragedy

City Court, Karachi:** A hearing was held in the case of a fatal accident in Shadman Nullah, where a motorcycle fell into the drain, resulting in the deaths of a woman and her two-month-old baby. The victim filed a compensation claim against the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and Town Municipal Committee North Nazimabad.

The court issued a show-cause notice to KMC and TMC North Nazimabad for failing to pay the awarded compensation. The total compensation ordered exceeds **Rs 99 million**, with the court directing both authorities to comply with the order by **March 24, 2026**.

Senior Civil Judge Zaheer Hussain Mangi noted that the accident occurred due to negligence on the part of both municipal authorities. He emphasized that KMC and DMC Central failed in their public duties, including the maintenance of drains and sewage systems, thereby endangering citizens’ safety.

The petitioner’s lawyer stated that during the 2022 rains, the family on a motorcycle fell into the nullah due to poor maintenance. As a result of the authorities’ negligence, the woman and her two-month-old son, Azlan, lost their lives. The compensation claim was filed under the Fatal Accidents Act, seeking justice for the deceased family members.
