Balochistan Government Working on Long-Term Strategy to Tackle Climate Change: CM Mir Sarfraz Bugti

**Quetta (Qudrat Roznama)** – Mir Sarfraz Bugti has said that the provincial government is working on a comprehensive and long-term strategy to address the adverse impacts of climate change in Balochistan.

He expressed these views during a meeting with Romina Khurshid Alam, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change. The meeting focused on climate-related challenges faced by Balochistan, environmental risks, and a joint strategy to mitigate their effects. Both sides agreed to strengthen environmental cooperation between the federal and provincial governments, enhance resource allocation, and increase technical support.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said climate change is one of the most serious challenges of the present era, with its effects being felt more intensely in Balochistan. He highlighted that the province is particularly vulnerable to floods, droughts, and other environmental disasters, making comprehensive policymaking and coordinated practical measures essential.

Mir Sarfraz Bugti also announced that Balochistan’s first Climate Fund has been established to ensure the timely completion of environmental projects and to implement practical measures in climate-affected areas. He noted that although Balochistan contributes negligibly to greenhouse gas emissions, it is among the regions most severely impacted by climate change, underscoring the need for stronger inter-provincial and federal cooperation.

Romina Khurshid Alam reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to working closely with Balochistan to address climate challenges. She praised the provincial government’s initiatives under the leadership of Mir Sarfraz Bugti and noted that the climate change policy in Balochistan includes the participation of women and marginalized communities, calling it a positive and forward-looking step.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to continue joint efforts to make Balochistan an environmentally secure and sustainable province.
